Elderly Jonesboro woman found dead of exposure

Jonesboro police say an elderly woman died of exposure after she locked herself out of her home.

The body of 85-year-old Althea Bahus was found Sunday morning on the back porch of her home, located in the 3700-block of Catalina Cove.

Jackie Sparkman, who works for Superior Senior Care, says he discovered Bahus while doing a welfare check.  Her oldest daughter reportedly was unable to contact her the previous night.

According to the initial police report, the back door was locked and the front doors were “locked and deadbolted.”  It appeared Bahus locked herself out of the home.

Craighead County Coroner Toby Emerson told police she died of exposure.

According to Bahus’s daughter, she was on several medications and suffered from dementia.
