ASU grad, Jonesboro native named Little Rock's top teacher

Holly Browning Brown, a 1995 graduate of Arkansas State, has received the Marian G. Lacey Award as the Top Teacher of 2013 in the Little Rock School District (LRSD). The announcement came during Teacher Appreciation Week with its annual Crystal Awards ceremony at the Embassy Suites in Little Rock.

Jonesboro man wins $1 million in Tunica

 

A trip to Tunica really paid off for a Jonesboro man.  Now, he knows how he will pay for his next trip.

On Saturday, May 18, Gerald Gwinn won $1 million in the Tunica Millionaire Maker giveaway.

Each week one name is drawn from entries at Harrah’s, Horseshoe and Tunica Roadhouse casinos in Tunica, Mississippi.

When asked what he would do with his newfound fortune Gwinn said, ““This will make our upcoming family trip to Denver much easier now. “

Gwinn also said he would use the money to pay off his daughters’ student loans.

Walnut Ridge woman awarded biotech internship

 

A Walnut Ridge woman is one of three Arkansas State University students awarded an internship from the Arkansas Biosciences Institute.

Beth Massey was awarded a Biotechnology Research internship, along with Kelsey Adams of Jonesboro  and Kim Ludick of South Africa.

According to an email from Thomas Moore of ASU, the internship program provides financial support to undergraduate science majors who want to obtain research experience in the life sciences during the summer.

Dr. Shane Speights has been named vice president of medical affairs for St. Bernards.

He earned his Doctor of Osteopathy degree from the University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kansas City, Mo., and completed a family medicine residency at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Area Health Education Center-Northeast (AHEC-Northeast) in Jonesboro.
