Walnut Ridge woman awarded biotech internship

 

A Walnut Ridge woman is one of three Arkansas State University students awarded an internship from the Arkansas Biosciences Institute.

Beth Massey was awarded a Biotechnology Research internship, along with Kelsey Adams of Jonesboro  and Kim Ludick of South Africa.

According to an email from Thomas Moore of ASU, the internship program provides financial support to undergraduate science majors who want to obtain research experience in the life sciences during the summer.

On Saturday, May 11, almost 2,000 students will graduate Arkansas State University.  Bill Carter will deliver the commencement address.

Carter, who was inducted as one of ASU’s Distinguished Alumni in 2011, is described as a “legend in the music business world and one of the driving forces behind the restoration of the boyhood home in Dyess of the late singing great Johnny Cash.” He produced the first two Johnny Cash Music Festivals.

Arkansas State University-Mountain Home will hold its 17th Commencement Ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 13, at Keller Green on the ASUMH campus.  The keynote speaker will be Governor Mike Beebe.

The college expects to award 570 degrees and certificates, including 263 ASUMH two-year degrees.  An anticipated total number of 106 ASU-Jonesboro graduates will also receive degrees at ASUMH.

Lyon College commencement set for May 4

Lyon College commencement set for May 4

Lyon College commencement will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 4, on the south lawn of Brown Chapel.

In case of rain, the ceremony will be held in Becknell Gymnasium.

Baccalaureate will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 3, in Brown Chapel.  The ceremony will be followed by the Scots Walk and torchlighting ceremony at Bryan Lake.

Area students recognized at career, technical ed. ceremony

 

ASU-Newport and Crowley’s Ridge Educational Service Cooperative partnered to host the annual Career and Technical Education ceremony Thursday, April 25, on the ASUN campus.

The annual event recognizes high school students who have completed a career or technical field program.

A total of 173 students from Harrisburg, Riverside, Tuckerman, Westside and Weiner were recognized for completing at least one program area.  In some cases students completed two or three programs.

Each student was presented a medallion and certificate.
