Catch of the day

Catch of the day

A trip to the lake paid off big time for Jeremy Mitchell of Jonesboro.

Check out the 7-pound largemouth bass he caught recently in Pocahontas.

No word on what Jeremy plans to do with this big fish; but, we bet a trip to the taxidermist is probably in his future.

It is the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States.

The walk begins with an opening ceremony at 8 a.m. in front of the Student Union on the Arkansas State University campus in Jonesboro.

Hunters will be selected during a random drawing in September.

Here is a list of hunt locations, methods of harvest and contacts:

Firing range now open

Firing range now open

Gun enthusiasts will be happy to know the Jack Cox Scatter Creek Firing Range in Greene County is once again open.

The range closed temporarily in June for repairs and modifications.

According to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, a new baffle was built and the old one was renovated.

The range is located northwest of Paragould.  Any legal rifle or pistol and ammunition may be used on the firing range.

Wildlife officers issuing special citations to kids

Wildlife officers issuing special citations to kids

Now here’s a citation you can really sink your teeth into.

Kids “caught” on Arkansas waterways wearing their life jackets will receive citations from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.

But, these special citations won’t require them to appear in court.  Instead, it entitles them to a small ice cream cone at Sonic.

In an effort to promote kids wearing life jackets, agents will be writing the citations as long as supplies last.
